In today's society, where video games of different types, ranges, scales, genres, formats, consoles and platforms have emerged and abounded perhaps more than ever, one who is not familiar with arcade video games is likely to hear that term and think of arcade video games as pass or no longer highly in demand the way they used to be so long ago. Many a time, when we think of the arcade type of video game, we picture youngsters with big, hair sprayed dos, chewing gum in neon colored stockings, flicking levers and pushing buttons on the stereotypical arcade gaming machines.
Contrary to what most people think, arcade video games never lost its popularity. In fact, despite the release of newer gaming consoles, the arcade video games has shown resilience and still continued to progress and never implied signs of slowing down. The arcade video game never faltered as they remain visible and active in the video game entertainment industry.
Arcade video games first gained popularity in the early 1970s, when the technology using solid-state electronics as well as integrated circuits was discovered by arcade video games creators.
Since then, arcade video games have pretty much maintained the same format and share the same qualities and traits as they used to back in the day. There have been more and more games released since those days. However, the actual video game machines in arcade format have managed to stay rather consistent with their original form.
By nature, arcade video games have rather short-lived levels on which the difficulty is increased the further a player would succeed in advancing. This can be attributed to the fact that these types of games are played in a different environment compared to hand-held and popular home-grounded consoles.
In newer consoles, players have the ability to play without limits at the comfort of their own homes. Meanwhile, the arcade video games were specifically designed to be played publicly. This playing environment make the players play with the presence of spectators and go multiplayer with strangers who challenges them. More than a tool for recreation, this kind of video game has opened doors for social interaction. In addition to this, players can only play the game at a limited amount of time depending on how much tokens they have, but despite these challenges arcade video games has continually pushed the players to a more enjoyable gaming experience.
We can’t deny that Arcade Video Games sill has a special place in the people’s hearts despite of newer games. And as the arcade video games share the limelight with other mainstream video gaming consoles, we know for sure that they would still be around even in the years to come.
